Job Summary

Somerset Community College invites applications for an Academic Advisor III position on the Laurel Campus.

Job Duties:

This position's primary responsibilities are to provide academic advising services to prospective and currently enrolled students with the admissions, enrollment, advising, and registration process. KY State Law requires state and national pre-employment background checks as a condition of employment.

Duties:
Provides academic and career advice to individual students when needed and/or make appropriate referrals. This includes admissions information, assessment, career counseling and program information.

Provides advice for students interested in transferring to four-year institutions.

Intervenes with early alert students and students on academic probation.

Conducts and assists with student orientations.

Disseminates registration information to students, staff, and faculty as necessary.

Provides enrollment/advising information to faculty to ensure students are advised accurately.

Visits other college centers to provide advising services to students at other centers.

Complies with Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and maintains highest level of confidentiality.

Performs other responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

The successful candidate should be a team-oriented individual possessing skills in the areas of interpersonal communication, organization, computers, and multi-tasking. This position requires a Master's Degree in Student Services or related area with three years of relevant experience, or equivalent. Equivalence may be achieved by substitution education or experience on a year-for-year basis. 

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's Degree in Student Services or related area and advising experience.
