Job Summary

Are you passionate about writing and love helping others succeed? SKYCTC is hiring a dedicated Writing Tutor to help our students become confident and effective communicators.

Job Duties:

This is an embedded writing coach position reporting to the Director of Library and Learning Services. This position supports the college’s Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) and the operation of the Learning Commons. The embedded writing coach will primarily serve a targeted population of students who place into Integrated Reading and Writing (IRW 100), which is the only transitional reading and writing course offered at SKYCTC; this course also requires concurrent enrollment in College Writing I (ENG 101), which is a credit-bearing curriculum-level course.
The role of the embedded writing coach will be to support the ENG 101 instructors by attending select class periods and assisting with hands-on workshops and activities to provide academic support. Additionally, the writing coach will collaborate with the instructors to implement targeted intervention strategies as appropriate for individual students through in-person and online tutoring sessions outside of class time. The writing coach will maintain availability to serve students on the Main Campus, Glasgow Health Campus, and the Franklin-Simpson Campus, where corequisite block schedules will be offered. Additionally, the writing coach will serve the Learning Commons by assisting students in other disciplines with writing assignments, projects, and oral presentations; helping students explore ways to revise their work; and giving feedback for improvement. The writing coach will also provide students with strategies for study skills, time management, test-taking, and test anxiety to foster academic success. The writing coach will work with students one-on-one and in small groups to help them become confident, independent learners. Coaching/Tutoring may be conducted virtually or in person at one of SKYCTC’s six campus locations.

• Maintaining documentation of student appointments for tutoring services.
