Job Summary

The SSS Tutor/Mentor is a part-time professional staff member of the TRiO/Student Support
Services Program. Tutors are responsible for clarifying and reinforcing course context, assignments,and materials. They assess, assist, and encourage the students in the learning processes. Their functions are a supplementation to the classroom teaching.

Job Duties:

• Assist SSS students with improving their learning process.
• Identify specific needs of each student.
• Reinforce good study skill methods
• Maintains records on each student who is being tutored, including follow-up and periodic
assessment.
• Schedules tutoring appointments.
• Provides evaluations and other reports as required by staff.
• Helps students develop positive attitudes toward learning and studying and helps students
develop a high level of motivation in academic areas.
• Assists students in achieving a better understanding of specific subject material and in
improving academic capabilities in designated areas.
• Helps students develop the study skills necessary for academic success.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Strong knowledge and/or experience in areas of student academic need
• Strong written, oral communication and presentation skills
• Ability to accommodate a flexible work schedule to include days, evenings, and weekends
as needed.
• Approachable, dependable, honest, and mature
• Patient and sensitive to a diversity of students
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word; comfortable with technology
