Job Summary

Bluegrass Community & Technical College’s Peer-mentors are experienced students who help their BCTC peers, especially first-years students, adapt to college life. Peer-mentors provide assistance on topics such as study-skills, time management, test-taking, etc. Those in this position will spend most of their time working with and helping other students in the Peer-Mentor Lab, promoting peer-mentor services, providing outreach, and much more! Students interested in developing leadership and communication skills are highly encouraged to apply. Training will be provided during the beginning of the fall semester, to prepare for the Fall 2025 semester.

Job Duties:

1.) Serve as a mentor to assigned students as well as walk-ins.
2.) Be approachable and accessible in order to meet the different needs of students.
3.) Help students adjust to college life by modeling successful academic and social behaviors.
4.) Direct students to individuals, programs, or departments at BCTC related to their needs.
5.) Provide information, resources, and workshops for all BCTC students, especially first-year students.
6.) Provide student services, information, and workshops via social media. (ex. KCTCS and BCTC phone apps)
7.) Assist students with tasks such as accessing Blackboard, MyPath, Spotlight, email, and more.
8.) Promote the Peer-mentor services through tabling, class presentations, and via social media.
9.) Provide outreach to students in a respectable manner.
10.) Assist in the Student Success Hub if needed (events, promotion of department services, etc.).
11.) Complete designated training on time as well as the KCTCS Compliance training when directed.
12.) Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• 2.7 minimum cumulative GPA, 3.0 and higher preferred.
• Current BCTC student & preferably a student who has been with BCTC for at least 1 semester, 12 credit hours)
• Knowledgeable of campus policies, procedures, and resources offered at the college.
• Willing to be highly involved on campus, especially with students.
