Job Summary
Seeking an experienced Shop Math and Metrology Instructor to deliver hands-on workforce training for incumbent workers and adult learners. This non-credit instruction is provided on-site at local manufacturing and industrial employer locations, or in campus-based labs as needed. This position is ideal for industry professionals with a strong manufacturing shop background who enjoy mentoring and teaching adults as needed basis.
Job Duties:
Teach foundational and intermediate topics in shop math and metrology.
A Review of fundamentals of basic math concepts and calculations
Derivation of Standardized Measurement Units (the seven base units of the SI System)
Traceability of Measurement
Precision versus Accuracy
Gage Pressure Reading
Basic Measuring Tools
Calipers: Including vernier, dial, and digital calipers for precise internal, external, and depth measurements
Micrometers: Outside, inside, and depth micrometers for highly accurate measurements of small dimensions Precision Measuring Instruments
Dial Indicators: For measuring small distances or variations in height
Height Gauges: Used in conjunction with surface plates for measuring vertical dimensions
Bridge & Bore Gauges: Their use & function.
Deliver content using hands-on demonstrations, simulation panels, and real-world troubleshooting scenarios
Reinforce safe work practices in all aspects of instruction
Prepare and maintain instructional materials and equipment
Communicate with Workforce Solutions team, employer partners, and learners about training logistics and expectations
Support learners with informal assessments, real-time feedback, and coaching
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Industrial Technology, Mechanical Engineering, or related equivalent experience
Minimum 3 years of recent hands-on experience in electrical maintenance, industrial electrical systems, or a related role
Strong understanding of metrology principles and proficiency in using various measuring instruments
Ability to travel to employer sites within the NKY region (includes southern Ohio)
Experience working with or training adult learners
Strong communication skills both written and verbal
Preferred Qualifications:
Certification in Metrology
Experience in the manufacturing or precision measurement industries
Prior teaching, coaching, or technical training experience
High attention to detail and safety
Self-directed, dependable, and professional
