Job Summary

Big Sandy Community and Technical College is accepting applications for a full-time Administrative Assistant II at the East Kentucky Science Center & Varia Planetarium. The qualified applicant will be organized and customer focused in order to support daily operations, visitor services, and educational programming. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with the public, supporting educational events, and wants to create memorable visitor experiences.

Job Duties:

Visitor Services & Event Support
• Schedule group visits, school field trips, community events, bus tours, and birthday parties.
• Coordinate with teachers, tourism representatives, parents, and organizations regarding visit activities.
• Assist visitors with purchasing tickets.
• Help set up the exhibit hall for groups, including routine exhibit cleaning.


Administrative & Financial Duties
• Maintain the Center’s annual events calendar.
• Prepare deposits, money, and checkout sheets for the Business Office.
• Prepare and analyze monthly reconciliation and ProCard reports for general expense and gift shop accounts.
• Maintain and update membership records; issue new and renewal membership cards.


Gift Shop Management
• Contact vendors and place orders for resale merchandise.
• Maintain inventory and serve as salesperson for the gift shop.


Communications & Digital Support
• Assist with updates to the Science Center’s website and Facebook page.


Other Duties
• Feed animals and clean tanks.
• Perform additional duties as assigned to support center operations.

Minimum Qualifications:

Must have a minimum of 1 year of related experience. The preferred candidate will have an associate’s degree, be highly organized with strong attention to detail, have excellent communications skills and be able to multitask in a dynamic educational environment.
