The Summer Tutor Counselor for the TRIO Upward Bound Program is responsible for supporting and supervising high school participants during the five- week residential summer program. Counselors serve as mentors, role models, and student advocates while fostering a safe, supportive, and engaging environment that promotes academic success, personal growth, and positive social development.
This will be a temporary position, running from June 14th to July 17th.
Job Duties:
• Reside in the residence hall with Upward Bound participants throughout the duration of the summer program. • Supervise and monitor students during daily activities, including evening programming, study hall sessions, recreational activities, and meals. • Escort students safely to and from campus locations, including the dining hall and scheduled program activities. • Provide guidance and support to students in developing healthy social interactions and positive peer relationships. • Encourage and facilitate student participation in organized group activities, recreational events, and community-building experiences. • Transport students using program-provided vehicles to and from approved locations and activities in accordance with institutional and safety guidelines. • Collaborate with assigned teachers to provide classroom assistance, tutoring, and academic support to participants. • Serve as a mentor and positive role model by demonstrating professionalism, leadership, and effective communication. • Communicate student concerns, behavioral issues, or emergencies promptly to program leadership. • Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and other program-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
• High school diploma • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record required for transportation responsibilities. • Ability to reside on campus and maintain flexible work hours, including evenings and weekends
Preferred Qualifications:
Current college enrollment or bachelor’s degree preferred
Additional Skills Requested:
• Experience working with high school students, youth programs, camps, or educational support services preferred. • Strong interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills. • Ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, and program staff. • Residential, live-in position during the summer program period. • Requires evening and weekend availability. • Frequent interaction with students in academic, recreational, and residential settings.
