Job Summary
The Maintenance Helper assists the Facilities and Maintenance Department in providing a safe, clean, and well-maintained environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. This position performs a variety of routine maintenance, repair, and groundskeeping tasks while supporting skilled trades personnel in the upkeep of college buildings, equipment, and campus grounds.
Job Duties:
Assist maintenance technicians with general repairs to buildings, equipment, and campus facilities/grounds
Performs routine preventive maintenance tasks as assigned and assists with plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, and HVAC-related projects under supervision.
Set up and move furniture, equipment, and materials for campus events and activities.
Replaces light bulbs, filters, ceiling tiles, and other common building components and performs minor repairs to doors, windows, locks, and fixtures.
Covers for maintenance facility workers as needed due to staffing shortages and vacations and/or sick leave of other team members.
Conducts routine inspections and reports maintenance issues or safety concerns.
Assist with snow and ice removal during inclement weather.
Helps maintain inventory of maintenance supplies and assist with stocking and organizing materials.

Minimum Qualifications:
HS diploma/GED and 1 year of relevant experience
Basic knowledge of building maintenance practices and the safe use of tools and equipment.
Ability to perform manual labor and work independently or as part of a team.
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
Strong customer service and communication skills.
Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
Detail-oriented, self-motivated, ability to work independently and adapt seamlessly to fast-paced, dynamic environments.
Skilled in engaging and supporting students from different cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Proven ability to manage multiple priorities effectively and meet tight deadlines.
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Forms, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, Word)
Preferred Qualifications:
Associate's degree or equivalent
Previous experience in facility maintenance, construction, groundskeeping, or related trades.
