Job Summary

Seeking an experienced Diesel Engine Mechanic to deliver hands-on workforce training for incumbent workers and adult learners. This non-credit instruction is provided on-site at local manufacturing and industrial employer locations, or in campus-based labs as needed. This position is ideal for industry professionals with a strong background in diesel engine mechanics who enjoy mentoring and teaching adults.

Job Duties:

  • Teach foundational and intermediate topics in industrial diesel mechanics, including:
    • Engine Diagnostics: Ability to troubleshoot and repair electronic fuel injection, turbochargers, and engine blocks.
    • Aftertreatment Systems: Knowledge of diesel particulate filters (DPF), selective catalytic reduction (SCR), and exhaust gas recirculation (EGR).
    • Electrical Troubleshooting: Skill in using multimeters to read wiring diagrams and fix complex onboard computer systems.
    • Brakes and Suspension: Proficiency in servicing heavy-duty air brake systems, steering components, and fifth-wheel assemblies.
  • Deliver content using hands-on demonstrations, simulation panels, and real-world troubleshooting scenarios.
  • Reinforce safe work practices in all aspects of instruction.
  • Prepare and maintain instructional materials and equipment.
  • Communicate with Workforce Solutions team, employer partners, and learners about training logistics and expectations.
  • Support learners with informal assessments, real-time feedback, and coaching.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of recent hands-on experience in diesel engines, electrical trouble shooting, and aftertreatment systems.
  • Strong working knowledge of fundamental diesel mechanics, vehicle safety, and engine safety standards.
  • Ability to travel to employer sites within the NKY region.
  • Experience working with or training adult learners.
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • OSHA 10/30 certification.
  • Prior teaching, coaching, or technical training experience.
  • High attention to detail and safety.
  • Self-directed, dependable, and professional.
  • Communicate effectively with Workforce staff, employer partners, and students.
  • Offer informal assessments, feedback, and coaching to learners.
