Job Summary
This part-time position will provide community health education classes to rural and disadvantaged populations in the North Central Area Health Education Center (NC AHEC) 16-county service area.

Job Duties:
Gives informal counseling and guidance on health behaviors.
Advocates for individual and community health needs, and provides some direct services such as first aid and blood pressure screening.
Promotes tobacco cessation and prevention services, and other health-related programs.
Participates in community health education events, and all appropriate Area Health Education (AHEC) outreach events and programs.
Provides basic health education through individual encounters and focus groups, community health presentations.
Assess participants needs and concerns; as they relate to their family, their community and their health, and provide health information and education.
Plans and leads group sessions and discussions on assigned health topics.
Makes referrals/Shares community resources to family support, health, and social services agencies in the area.
Attends conferences as directed and/or assigned.
Assists in completing other programs goals and requirements/as needed.
Promotes health professions programs at Gateway.
Coordinates health-related activities and
Report to Program Coordinator and Center Director.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma
1 year experience
Bilingual, Spanish - English
Experience in and understanding of the importance of working with students from diverse populations.
Excellent organizational skills; high attention to detail; independent; self-motivated; able to work in a fast-paced, changing environment.
Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to communicate with many individuals at all levels throughout the internal college environment as well as external business and community partners, representing his/her self in a professional and courteous manner.
Ability to communicate clearly verbally and, in writing.
Ability to multi-task, work under deadlines, and prioritize projects to meet deadlines with high levels of efficiency and accuracy.
Must have proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Teams and Outlook
Preferred Qualifications:
Associate or Bachelor
5 years experience
CPR and First Aid certification, Certified Community Health Worker
