GEORGE MASON UNIVERSITY
The attorney, based on the campus of George Mason University in Fairfax, will serve the Attorney General under the direction of the Chief of the Education Section and the University Counsel, and will provide representation and a wide variety of legal services to the University. George Mason University is Virginia’s largest public research university, with over 39,000 students on three campuses in Virginia and one in Korea.
Minimum Qualifications
DUTIES: It is anticipated that the attorney will handle a broad range of legal matters, serving all divisions of the University, in coordination with the other attorneys in the Office of the University Counsel. Areas of emphasis include construction, real estate and finance. The position may also assist current attorneys in the office, as needed, in the areas of contract, and/or transactional matters related to procurement, sponsored research, non-disclosure agreements, and University-Associated Organizations. Additionally, the individual will provide other legal services to the University and the Commonwealth as directed by the University Counsel and the Office of the Attorney General.
Preferred Qualifications:
QUALIFICATIONS: Successful candidate will have excellent analytical abilities and written and oral communication skills and be able to respond to legal requests in a timely fashion. A minimum of five years of experience in the general practice of law is required. Preference will be given to applicants with specific experience in the representation higher education institutions. Excellent interpersonal skills are also required. High level organizational skills and an ability to manage many projects simultaneously and work under pressure are required. Must be admitted to the Virginia bar or eligible for immediate admission. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. Admission to the Virginia Bar is required before beginning employment. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
