Job Duties
Norfolk State University’s (NSU) Department of Facilities Management provides a campus environment that is conducive to working and learning through systematic maintenance, repair, and renovation and construction of campus buildings, facilities, and infrastructure.
Norfolk State University, Department of Facilities Management, is currently seeking a Plaster/Masonry Technician.
Essential functions include but are not limited to:
1. Builds brick, block and stone structures according to the building code of the Commonwealth of Virginia.
2. Performs all work in accordance with the masonry industry standard.
3. Prepare cost estimates for new and renovation projects; determines cost estimates for repairs, such as, floor and ceiling tiles and all masonry components.
4. Requisitions materials needed for repairs and special projects.
5. Install and repair sheet rock ceilings and walls, plaster ceilings and walls, and install and replace ceiling, floor, and wall tile according to industry standard.
6. Install and finish concrete for sidewalks, handicapped ramps, curbs and gutters on slabs according to industry standard.
7. Work with materials, such as wood, drywall, concrete, masonry and tile.
8. Utilize hand and power tools to repair, renovate, and erect structures.
9. Work from heights, as necessary, including stilts, ladders, and scaffolding.
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, and convey matters to large diverse audiences (students/staff/faculty/contractors/vendors), and provide quality customer service.
10. Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
1. Work requires knowledge equivalent to a high school diploma or GED or any equivalent combination of experience and training.
2. Considerable knowledge and experience of the plaster-masonry related trades work.
3. Must possess a valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Vocational certification and/or military experience in the plaster/masonry field.
