Job Duties

Norfolk State University’s Department of Facilities Management provides a campus environment that is conducive to working and learning, through systematic maintenance, repair, and renovation and construction of campus buildings, facilities, and infrastructure.

The Department of Facilities Management is currently seeking applicants to the position of Plumber/Trades Technician III.

Essential functions include but are not limited to:

1. Installs, maintains and repairs: Water and drainage systems; Plumbing fixtures; Ice Machines; Faucets; Pool pup systems; Showers; Sump pumps; Backflow preventers; Garbage disposals; Corroded or defective pipes; Drain line cleanout using machine to retrieve debris; Unheated water lines in outdoor facilities by draining and removing backflow preventers to winterize.
2. Responds to plumbing emergencies.
3. Roughs in new fixtures and waterlines for repairs or renovation projects.
4. Follows strict tool and inventory control procedures.
5. Assist in checking building for problems on a daily basis.
6. Perform other duties within the purview of the Physical Plant operations as assigned.
7. Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Work requires knowledge equivalent to a high school diploma or GED or any equivalent combination of experience and training related to the plumbing trade.
2. Extensive experience and knowledge of complex plumbing industry standards.
3. Valid Driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. State Journeyman Plumber’s license or must obtain within one year of employment.
2. Backflow Prevention Device Tester’s License.
3. State Master Plumber’s license.
