Job Duties
Norfolk State University’s (NSU) Department of Facilities Management provides a campus environment that is conducive to working and learning through systematic maintenance, repair, and renovation and construction of campus buildings, facilities, and infrastructure.
The department invites applications for a Moving and Set-Up Supervisor. The incumbent is responsible for providing moving and setup support for campus events, offices, including furniture, materials, and supplies within rooms, buildings, and/or between buildings as described on work order.
Essential functions include but are not limited to:
1. Coordinate and provide logistical support in facilitating all University-owned tables, chairs, stages, backdrops, podiums, decorations and props for special events.
2. Manage a computer file and inventory of all University support resources involved in special event support to include total accounting, condition of resources and provide recommendations and cost estimates for repair and replacement.
3.Required to meet with Faculty, Staff, Student Leaders as well as external Customers to obtain details specific to requests. Advise customers and communicates on move preparations, changes, materials unable to pick up as requested.
4. Represents the Facilities Management Department during Customer Service related issues and planning.
5. Provide hands-on execution and completion of set-ups take down of all Special Event and Moving and Hauling Activities.
6. Provide computer generated reports, updates and information in support of all special events.
7. Coordinate and provide logistical support in facilitating all University moves, hauling and relocation for faculty, staff and student leaders.
8. Move and relocate University furniture, chairs, tables, surplus items and disposable items.
9. Provide Landscape and Grounds supervisory and hands on support in grounds trash removal, grounds maintenance and landscape beautification efforts.
10. Haul materials by truck and trailer. Safely operate material handling equipment. Protect material being transported and moved using appropriate materials. Protect buildings, elevators, grounds as necessary in preparation for movement of materials.
11. Operate all Grounds Support Tools and Equipment proficiently.
12. Ability to safely and independently exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
13. Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel crouch, crawl, reach, walk, push, pull, lift, and grasp repetitively for long periods of time.
14. Be able to perform Grounds Equipment minor repairs and minor maintenance.
15. Report as essential personnel for snow removal and inclement weather support.
16. Maintain a valid Virginia Driver’s License at all times. Must maintain a valid Virginia Commercial Driver’s License. Must attend vehicle safety training.
17. Comply with standing instructions provided by operating manuals, safety rules and regulations for personal protection.
18. Promptly report instances of equipment, furniture, material, building, vehicle damage and/or vandalism/theft of University property.
19. Ability to work flexible hours which include evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Work requires knowledge equivalent to a high school diploma or GED or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
2. Demonstrated knowledge of basic moving and hauling techniques.
3. Demonstrated knowledge of standard grounds maintenance operations and machinery.
4. Demonstrated knowledge of the use of grounds equipment.
5. Must possess and maintain a valid Virginia driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications:
Virginia Commercial Driver’s License preferred.
