Job Duties
Purpose of Position:
Serves in a temporary position that enables an individual with their Ph.D. to continue their training as a researcher and gain skills and experience that will prepare them for their research career in academia or elsewhere. As a postdoc, the position can perform mostly independent research, collaborate on a multi-scholar research initiative, or even may have lead responsibility for discrete components of a larger research project or program, all while under the general direction of a senior or principal researcher.
Job Duties:
1. Research Responsibilities: 75 - 100%
▪ Scholarly Activity – Scholarly work takes various forms. However, a faculty member’s effectiveness can be demonstrated by such achievements as publications in learned journals, fine arts creations, artistic performances, presentation of the results of original research, etc. The quality of the individual’s scholarly approach, capacity for independent thought, originality and research output must be considered.
▪ Service – Service functions may be those performed for the University, the Commonwealth of Virginia, and regional, national and international groups. Service may include activities such as participation in committee work, carrying out administrative assignments, contributions to the improvement of faculty and student life, community work, etc.
2. Classroom instruction (if assigned): 0 - 25%
Minimum Qualifications
An earned PhD in Advanced Manufacturing Logistics or related field by date of hire is required.*
Knowledge of a subject/field and current research in a discipline housed in the department.
Abilities:
▪ To develop effective research agenda
▪ Help identify sources of funding, prepare research proposals and submit funding applications
▪ Promote a team effort within the department for research and project activities
▪ Use research results to write reports, papers and reviews and present findings in journals and conferences.
▪ Collaborate with research teams, industry stakeholders and government agencies.

▪ Assist in managing research grants expenditures
