Job Duties

Norfolk State University is seeking a tenure-track full-time Assistant Professor of Drama and Theatre specializing in African American Theatre & Performance. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching courses such as Acting and Intro to Theatre, serving as the Program Coordinator for the Drama & Theatre Division, and engaging in professional development, research, and university service. The position requires a commitment to supervising a diverse student population and maintaining regular office hours.

Responsibilities

• Teach courses in Acting, Intro to Theatre, and other areas as qualified.
• Serve as the Program Coordinator of the Drama & Theatre Division with 3 credit hours of release time.
• Maintain high levels of professional development, research, and creative activity.
• Engage in university service and committee work.
• Supervise and train a diverse population of students.
• Maintain regular office hours.

Minimum Qualifications

• M.F.A. in Acting/performance or related field.
• Five years of teaching experience, including three years at an assistant professor level.
• Five years of professional experience as an actor, including performing African
American theatrical works.

Additional Considerations

• Specialization/certification in voice and/or movement for actors.
• Experience with academic program assessment in higher education.
• Excellent leadership and personnel management skills.
• Experience with budgeting/procurement processes.
• Knowledge and experience with NAST Accreditation.
• Experience in grantsmanship.
