Job Duties

Starting salary for Certified Officers: $56,100 – $72,535 depending upon years of experience. $10,000 recruitment/tenure bonus.

*Responsible for protection of Government officials, legislators, employees, and citizens through the enforcement of state laws and the compliance with policies and procedures through patrols in the Division’s statutory jurisdiction and the maintaining of stationary police posts in assigned properties.

*Duties include: affecting an arrest, testifying in court; safely operating a law enforcement vehicle, interviewing individuals, performing searches of people and property, reading and comprehending a variety of legal and administrative documents.

Minimum Qualifications

Must have a current Virginia Division of Criminal Justice certification as a Law Enforcement Officer.

Must have experience as a sworn Police Officer in Virginia.

Must be 21 years of age and a U.S. citizen.

Valid drivers license; high school diploma or G.E.D.

Must be able to pass a physical and psychological examination; no felony or misdemeanor convictions; subject to random drug screening.

Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing with a diverse population.

Ability to utilize a personal computer using current software programs.

Additional Considerations

Graduation from an accredited college or university with applicable coursework in government, business, criminal justice or a related field.

Automatic Disqualifiers
1. A conviction of Driving Under the Influence in the past five years, or more than one conviction of Driving Under the Influence in the applicant’s lifetime.
2. A felony conviction.
3. Any illegal use of cocaine or heroin, or any other controlled substance listed in Schedule I or Schedule II of Title 54.1 of the Code of Virginia in the past five years, or the illegal use of any controlled substance listed in Schedule I or II more than once in the applicant’s lifetime. The use of LSD or PCP at any time in the applicant’s life.
4. The illegal use of any drug during the last twelve months.
5. Illegal sale of any drug or narcotic.
6. Active revocation or suspension of driving privileges in any state.
7. Falsification of application with intent to conceal or mislead.
8. Documented untruthfulness during applicant process.
9. Any conviction of any misdemeanor crime of domestic violence
