Eastern State Hospital, located in Williamsburg, Virginia, was founded in 1773, with a well-intentional emphasis on community focused mental health care. This state of the art campus, situated on 500 acres, consists of two patient care buildings with 300 patients, and a highly skilled staff of over 900. Eastern State Hospital is part of the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) system, and is accredited by the Joint Commission.


ESH invites applications for the position of Staffing Coordinator / Scheduler (Administrative Office Specialist III) in the Nursing Department.


This position provides operational and administrative support in the process of scheduling nursing staff for Eastern State Hospital. Is responsible to prepare schedules for nursing employees (RN, LPN, DSAs) and to maintain appropriate staffing levels in the nursing department to meet the needs of a 24/7 facility. Coordinates and makes adjustments to assure that nursing staffing numbers are adequate to meet patient care needs. Under the supervision of the Manager, confirms schedules are accurate and timely distributed to the units, staffing patterns are properly adjusted, anticipates the need to make staffing adjustments/movements to reduce the necessity of overtime hours in review of staffing levels. Prepares forms and reports as requested, such as daily staffing, overtime usage, call ins, weekend make up, staffing needs/variances, and other issues. Revises and updates information for nursing employees in the electronic scheduling system.

Minimum Qualifications

• Experience with 24/7 Nursing Schedules and meeting scheduled deadlines is required.

• Experience in a fast-paced environment requiring provision of services to customers at all levels of an organization is required.

• Experience using Staff Scheduling Programs for inputting and utilization of shift schedules is required.

• Experience utilizing Microsoft Office Suite (including email applications) is required.

• Experience with filing systems, statistical reporting, data entry and record keeping is required.
