About the Agency
The Virginia Department of Fire Programs enhances public safety in the Commonwealth by providing supplemental funding, training, fire prevention and life safety education, along with statewide fire code enforcement. The organizational objective is to plan, establish, maintain, improve, and promote public safety in the Commonwealth.
About the Position
This position will complete weekly/monthly equipment checks to maintain equipment and ensure all equipment is safe and operational, as well as perform the maintenance of all mobile fire and emergency service trailers, tools, and other technical equipment. Perform delivery and pick up of all state assets, whether in a training or response function. The selected candidate for this position will also be responsible for performing administrative tasks that are related to this job function as required such as electronically documenting completed tasks, filing records, answering phone calls and providing customer service.
The selected candidate for this position will be paid at an hourly rate of $20.00 when performing administrative and/or warehouse/logistical responsibilities and at an hourly rate of $31.00 when performing CDL driving related responsibilities.
Minimum Qualifications
• General knowledge of the operation and the maintenance of small tools and equipment.
• General knowledge of welding and the cutting of metals.
• Ability to lift greater than 50 pounds, work overhead.
• Considerable experience operating a light truck that is used to pull a wide variety of equipment trailers.
• Considerable experience in general maintenance, repair and fabrication of equipment.
• Considerable experience operating a computer and experience in Microsoft office, Microsoft Suite and Google platform.
• Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) or ability to complete the course within the first twelve (12) months of hire.
• Class A CDL with the following endorsements is desired: Hazardous Material (H), Double and Triple Trailers (T) and Tank Vehicle (N).
Additional Considerations
• Knowledge of emergency service operations desired.

Licensure/Certification:
• Must possess a driver’s license with no more than five (5) negative points.
Criminal History: Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a criminal background check.
Other: Must be eligible for employment in the State of Virginia and at least 18 years of age. Occasional day time travel required. Individual must have the ability to work a minimum of 20 hours or more per week.
