Job Duties:
Wilson Workforce and Rehabilitation Center (WWRC) provides people with disabilities comprehensive, individualized services to realize optimal personal independence and employment. We are seeking a Recreation Therapist person who will serve as a specialized clinician with experience and knowledge in client evaluation and treatment techniques; instruct and mentor new staff therapists, other team members and student interns; be active in program and departmental leadership.
To meet the expectations of the job, the incumbent must have access to personally identifiable and confidential information about agency consumers and/or agency staff. To work as an integral part of the Rehabilitation Vocational/life skills team.
Minimum Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have:
Knowledge/Experience:
- Clinical knowledge gained during the professional curriculum.
- Working knowledge of principles and practice of RT techniques.
Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to administer Recreational therapy treatments, including assistive technology, Leisure education, equipment and/or rule adaptations for successful participation in recreation.
- Ability to work as a team member in an interdisciplinary rehabilitation setting.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Effective teaching skills and knowledge of Anger Management, Socialization thru Recreation, Leisure education, Skill Development, Volunteerism, performing arts, and aquatic activities.
Additional Considerations:
- Training in Therapeutic Recreation.
- Certification by NCTRC or eligible for National certification.
- Previous work or affiliation in a rehabilitation environment.
- Clinical or general experience as CTRS.
- Lifeguarding and boating certification.
- Fitness
Special Instructions:
- This has been designated a sensitive position under Va. Code § 2.2-1201.1.
