Job Duties

Position is responsible for providing quality educational programs that enable incarcerated youth and adults to become responsible, productive, tax-paying members of their community. Also provide effective Career and Technical instruction in the assigned trade area; to assist assigned students to complete the required competencies for that trade area; demonstrate effective classroom or lab management; ensure that the lab is operated in compliance with all aspects of safety management; and to maintain accurate and current students records for the assigned student.

Minimum Qualifications

The ability to engage students in one-on-one teaching and work with students and inmate aides in a classroom/Lab environment. The ability to maintain accurate records, Knowledge and experience of policy and procedure governing adult education. Must possess working knowledge of basic adult education field, adult literacy, and computer software appropriate for program needs. Experience in maintaining classroom, equipment, and inventories; Demonstrate competency in the related field of current trade licensure.

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.

Experience: Must have at least two years' full time or 2000 hours of verifiable experience in the last 5 years in the relevant field/trade area for a teaching certificate.

License: Must be eligible for an Industrial/Technical Professional License/Certification in the relevant trade area/field. Must be eligible for a teaching certificate by the Department of Education.

1. You must submit all documentation for your provisional license to the licensure designee for Virginia Department of Corrections (VADOC) during the first 90 days of employment.

2. Obtaining a provisional license within the 1-year probationary period is employee’s responsibility and is required to continuing employment at the Department of Corrections (DOC).

Additional Considerations

Experience in correctional education classroom management.
Five years of experience in the related trade/field.
License: Must an Industrial/Technical Professional License/Certification in the relevant trade area/field. Must be eligible for a teaching certificate by the Department of Education.

. Must have a Teaching certificate by the Department of Education.

Knowledge of all phases of the trade area; ability to supervise adult in-mates in a classroom/lab environment in a correctional facility. Knowledge and experience in correctional education classroom management. The ability to facilitate other instructors; knowledge of the Department of Corrections (DOC) institutional policies and procedures and policies governing correctional education.

This facility is located in the rural Northern Neck approximately 1.5 hours northeast of the City of Richmond. Successful candidates must be willing and able to work in this geographic location.
