Job Duties

The Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation is seeking a Youth and Family Programs Manager to: plan, organize, and execute public and community programs of varying natures, sizes, and complexities, related to the agency’s strategic plan, interpretive plan, and initiatives which serve family and youth audiences. This position will support and enhance annual programs and living history events by developing family activities that serve a young and intergenerational audience. This position will also collaborate with the Adult and Annual Programs Manager, the Community Engagement Manager and the wider Learning and Community Engagement team to build a meaningful and dynamic calendar of events which grow repeat and local visitation to the Jamestown Settlement and American Revolution Museum at Yorktown. This position will work across multiple departments and divisions to coordinate staff and volunteer support for programs or events; will also provide expertise and support to other Museum Operations & Education divisions on assigned special initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications

• Demonstrated ability to develop creative, innovative, and engaging educational programs and events that meet the needs of youth and family audiences.
• Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion and ability to work effectively and respectfully with people of diverse cultures, ages, and economic backgrounds.
• Ability to pilot programs and establish a foundational slate of offerings for youth and families, growing local, repeat participants.
• Demonstrated ability to organize and manage multifaceted programs and projects, meeting challenging timelines with an attention to detail.
• Knowledge of museum audiences and approaches for engaging them through compelling and relevant experiences.
• Demonstrated understanding of interpretive principles, and teaching techniques for young learners.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate and work in a team environment.
• Ability to develop and administer budgets from different funding sources.
• Experience using Microsoft Office software, including Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Additional Considerations

• Graduation from an accredited college/university with course work in museum education, education, history, public history, or museum studies preferred.
• Experience in community program or event management.
• Experience with formal and/or informal teaching with learners under 18.
