Job Duties

The Coordinator is responsible for all aspects of the Parent Education program. The individual in the position fulfills this role by working cooperatively with the DRS manager and staff and with parent education seminar providers and instructors in the Commonwealth. The Coordinator serves as the main point of contact for all internal and external questions and concerns related to the program.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Program Management and Analysis: 1) Maintain oversight of all approved parent education seminar providers and instructors; 2) Provide assistance, counsel and information to providers and instructors as requested; and 3) Ensure quality by a) assisting program providers and seminar instructors to identify and adhere to statutory requirements and DRS policies; b) Addressing complaints and problems as they arise, taking corrective action when needed to bring providers and instructors into compliance with these requirements and policies; c) reviewing parent education curricula to ensure compliance with state standards and best practices; and d) addressing misinformation from outside vendors offering non-approved parent education products.

Training and Education: 1) Vet applicants asking to be trained to become approved seminar providers; 2) Conduct train-the-trainer sessions; 3) Organize and facilitate periodic seminar provider symposiums and regional refresher workshops; and 4) Conduct seminars as needed and hold post-seminar debrief session with trainees in attendance as observers.

Technical Assistance: 1) Review quarterly provider reports to identify trends and areas of concern; 2) Assess the need for a state-endorsed and mandated seminar curriculum and coordinate the creation of such curriculum if necessary; 3) Ensure the website list of providers is current and correct; 4) Conduct analysis of parent education seminar attendee evaluations and follow up with providers and instructors as needed; and 5) Attend meetings and prepare reports to provide DRS staff with necessary information and data for operational and analysis purposes.

Outreach: 1) Communicate with individuals, agencies, institutions, and businesses seeking information about parent education in Virginia.

Planning: 1) Assist in identifying long-range needs and establishing objectives and strategies to meet those needs; and 2) Collaborate with OES and DRS staff in shaping and analyzing legislative proposals related to parent education in Virginia.

Minimum Qualifications

• Approved and experienced Parent Education seminar provider or instructor

• Expertise in the creation of educational curriculum, preferably designed for divorcing/separating parents

• Knowledge and expertise related to child development and family dynamics, especially as they pertain to divorce/separation

• Bachelor’s degree

• Proficiency in Microsoft Word

Preferred Qualifications/Experience -

· Experience in group facilitation or teaching adult audiences

· Professional experience as a family mediator, family law attorney, or family therapist
