Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is excited to offer and announce an opportunity to serve as a part-time Business Coordinator in the Central Office’s – Civil Rights Division. This position is located at the BOWD center in Sandston, VA.

The selected candidate will be an experienced Business Coordinator with a strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite. The successful candidate will assist the Business Opportunity and Workforce Development Center with business functions such as SPCC, expense reimbursement, requisitions, PO’s, generating budget reports, and other duties as assigned.

This position will be part of a team of professionals that collaborate on many projects geared towards initiatives that support VDOT’s mission and values. The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated, positive minded, team player with the ability to work independently.

This position is an Hourly/Wage position. Hourly (wage) employees may not work more than an average of 29 hours a week and cannot exceed 1500 hours during the wage employment year (May 1 – April 30). This position does not include health insurance, retirement or leave.

Minimum Qualifications

• Experience with SPCC
• Experience with Cardinal Expense Reimbursements, POs, Requisitions
• Knowledge of accounting practices and procedures to include GAAP.
• Knowledge of budgeting principles and practices.
• Knowledge of business principles and procedures.
• Ability to read, interpret and apply state laws, policies, procedures.
• Skill in collecting and analyzing data and preparing reports or presentations.
• Ability to prepare and analyze financial information and prepare accurate status reports.
• Knowledge of procurement practices and procedures.
• Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external customers.
• Proficiency in financial computer programs, MS Word, Excel.
• Ability to solve problems and make decisions.
• Knowledge of records management and retention procedures and schedules.

Additional Considerations

• A combination of training, experience, or education in the business or accounting or related field desired.
• Administrative experience coordinating a variety of business functions for a designated program area.

VDOT is an emergency operation agency. Positions physically working within Central Office locations may be designated upon request and coordination among the respective District Engineer or Administrator and Chief. Assignments are updated annually. Not all designated employees are provided an emergency operations assignment.
