Job Duties

Western State Hospital is seeking a Full Time Fiscal Technician to maintain the timekeeping system and records for Western State Hospital and the Commonwealth Center for Children and Adolescents (CCCA), and our employees. This position will be responsible for monitoring employee time and leave; complying with Hospital and State policy and FLSA policies; initiating reports to meet critical deadlines established by the Commonwealth of Virginia; maintaining internal controls on Comp Time, Year-End leave carryover, 90-day absences, Lost Time adjustments, as well as FMLA leave; and responsible for making authorized corrections to time and/or leave records and maintaining an accessible records for audit purposes.

The Fiscal Technician will also be responsible for preparing necessary workups to assure accuracy of hours and percentages to be paid for short term disability payments; preparing final pay work ups for terminating employees; available for back-up in processing weekly timekeeping edits and report processing from Kronos Workforce as needed; ability to communicate with supervisor as well as with employees; and meet critical processing and report deadlines as required by supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

- working knowledge of basic accounting principles and of general office procedures
- skilled in analysis of fiscal transactions and performance of detailed mathematical calculations rapidly and accurately
- ability to work under pressure and interpret policies and regulations, especially those established by FLSA and state guidelines
- must be flexible and able to adapt to changing environment
- must be able to utilize on-line systems, LANS, networks and software packages such as Microsoft Office, Kronos, and Cardinal/Peoplesoft
- proficiency in Excel
- ability to work independently and with a team and ability to communicate with and assist employees when needed

Additional Considerations

- State experience in field or Associate Degree or higher or equivalent combination of related studies in accounting and/or financial systems, or experience indicating ability to perform the functions of this position
- working knowledge of automated Timekeeping software
- bilingual
