Job Duties

The Network Engineer’s role is to manage and tune in-house or hosted environment computer software systems and network connections to ensure stable operations, high levels of availability, and security of the supported business applications and agency IT infrastructure. This includes developing, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing key functional areas, particularly network infrastructure, server infrastructure, data communications, and telecommunications systems. The Network Engineer will also schedule and direct activities to resolve hardware and software problems in a timely and accurate fashion. This individual also participates in the planning and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure system provisioning and maintenance that is consistent with company goals, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements, as well as a working knowledge of the skills to provision, manage, monitor, and decommission cloud services.

Minimum Qualifications

• Working technical knowledge of in-house network, PC, server, and platform operating systems.
• Extensive application support experience.
• Working technical knowledge of current systems software, protocols, and standards, including [firewalls, Active Directory…].
• Strong system administration (Linux/Unix or Windows) at the command-line level.
• Experience with running and maintaining scripting [PowerShell, Puppet, Chef, etc.].
• Strong knowledge of network administration.
• Working technical knowledge of PBX, voice mail, interactive voice services, call management systems, and telecommunications accounting systems.
• Strong hands-on knowledge of the installation, implementation, and maintenance of telecommunications equipment, video teleconferencing equipment, and voice/data equipment.
• Working technical knowledge of current telecommunications practices, protocols, and principles.
• Ability to make sound and logical judgments.
• Demonstrated leadership and personnel/project management skills.
• Good understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives.
• Ability to perform general mathematical calculations for the purpose of creating needs assessments, budgets, and so on.
• Strong customer service orientation.

Additional Considerations

• College diploma or university degree in the field of computer science and/or 4 years equivalent work experience.
