About the Position:

The Virginia State Police (VSP) is seeking to hire a Program Support Technician Senior in our Office of Legal Affairs at State Police Headquarters in North Chesterfield, Virginia. The successful candidate will receive responsive FOIA documents electronically or by mail in a variety of mediums, uploads requests to NextRequest and organizes according to specific request; will analyze and process documents, audio, and video files in response to Subpoena Duces Tecums, Discovery and Virginia Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests in accordance with Virginia law and by applying statutorily appropriate redactions as instructed through NextRequest (preparing correspondence, filing, and preparing administrative reports); will communicate with the requester and third parties, as needed, to refine requests; negotiates alternate time periods; responds to inquiries; coordinates search; ascertains the ability to release requested records; and resolves other relevant matter; will assist the FOIA Specialist with the maintenance of the Department’s FOIA database; and will assist attorneys, the FOIA Specialist and/or legal secretary with sorting mail, filing, answering telephone calls, sending and receiving faxes, relaying messages, greeting visitors, scheduling meetings, data entry, filing records, and/or copying.

Minimum Qualifications

•Working knowledge of office procedures and practices.
•Skill in the use of computers and using Microsoft Office applications.
•Demonstrated ability to read and understand State policies and procedures related to document redaction under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) or Virginia Code; to redact sensitive information within records based on FOIA exemptions or Virginia Code; to enter, delete, retrieve, manipulate, and correct information in automated databases or electronic records preferred; to analyze records/documents; to interpret and follow oral and written instructions in performing tasks; to draft correspondence and documents; to communicate effectively orally and in writing in English; to work independently and as member of a team; and to maintain harmonious working relationships with internal and external customers.
•High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

Additional Considerations

•Secretarial experience preferred.
•FOIA experience in a government environment preferred.
•Experience performing initial document reviews and applying appropriate redactions to sensitive information within records located in response to FOIA requests preferred.
