Job Duties

The Senate of Virginia is seeking a reliable and detail-oriented individual to fill an
evening tutor position in the Senate Page Program, a session-long educational
opportunity facilitated by the Senate Clerk’s Office for 13 and 14-year-old students from
across the Commonwealth.

The preferred candidate will be an integral member of a team. Managed by the
program director and the assistant program director, the evening tutor will assist with
facilitating mandatory study hall four nights a week with approximately 40 students in
grades 7, 8 and 9. Duties include, but may not be limited to, the accountability of the
class, working in tandem with the tutoring team to assist with homework-related
questions and completing administrative tasks such as taking roll.
Key Responsibilities
● Ensure standards of decorum and attire are upheld at all times
● Distribute and ensure completion of homework assignments sent through the
Senate Clerk’s Office
● Proctor exams and quizzes
● Assist with class supervision at evening events, such as receptions and historical
sites

The preferred candidate will have at least three years of experience in a public or
private school setting – or a combination of the two – with an ability to be team oriented
and a constant professional. Requirements: background in teaching basic math to
algebra II-geometry, English, U.S. history, or science. In addition, knowledge of other
core subjects is preferred but not required. Applicants must pass a background check.
This is a paid, non-benefited position beginning January 6 and ending February 20.

Additional Considerations

Hours
Monday – Thursday, 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. (minimum two nights of study hall coverage is preferred)
