Job Duties

Are you knowledgeable of state and federal energy policies, regulations, and initiatives? Do you have experience strategically leading a team to meet established goals? Then look no further! The Virginia Department of Energy, State Energy Office, is seeking an Energy Modeling and Advanced Technology Team Lead to oversee a dynamic team dedicated to advancing Virginia's energy initiatives. The successful candidate leads the energy modeling and forecasting within the office. They will steer the evaluation and analysis of cutting-edge technologies, including Small Modular Nuclear Reactors (SMRs) and emerging hydrogen energy innovations. This position is currently approved to work a Hybrid telework schedule with four days in the office and one day of telework.

Minimum Qualifications

The successful candidate should have the following knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience in order to qualify for this position.
• Technical Skills: Proficiency in energy modeling software, data analysis tools, and familiarity with energy market dynamics
• Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a diverse team, with strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with a track record of using data-driven approaches to inform decisions
• Knowledge of Policy: Understanding of state and federal energy policies, regulations, and initiatives, particularly in Virginia
• Experience: 2+ years of experience in energy modeling, forecasting, or technology evaluation, with a focus on advanced energy systems
• A valid driver’s license with a good driving record

This position has been designated as required to file a Statement of Economic Interest in accordance with Section 2.2-3114 of the Code of Virginia. In addition, individuals accepted for employment will have to successfully pass a drug test, reference and background check as part of the Virginia Energy pre-employment process.
