Job Duties

Western State Hospital is seeking a part time Food Operations Assistant who will perform a combination of operational tasks related to the assembly and service of patient trays to include: proper assembly of patient trays, snacks and bag meals, service of items from cold serving station or hot line, and cleaning of dishes, trays, equipment and kitchen facilities; and perform work in accordance with rules and regulations of the Virginia Department of Health, maintaining a high level of personal hygiene.

The Food Operations Assistant will also share information directly with all appropriate parties using acceptable avenues for communication to promote open and honest dialogue; pre-portion food accurately using scales, appropriate serving utensils, and the correct dish or insert; properly tare a scale to ensure accuracy when pre-portioning items; identify proper dippers by ounce level; accurately serves food and beverage items in proper amounts by weighing correctly; properly store foods to prevent food spoilage and waste; and clean, sanitize, and store all pots and pans allowing them to air dry according to the VDH and Department guidelines.

Minimum Qualifications

- ability to lift moderate to heavy objects (20-50+ lbs), prolonged standing and walking on various surfaces, and ability to work when needed in various environmental conditions
- ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions and ability to read tray tickets and posted job assignments
