About the Job:
DJJ is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the role of Deputy Director of Education and Rehabilitative Care. Reporting to the Director of Juvenile Justice and as a member of DJJ's Executive Team, this role will provide leadership for the administration and execution of high-quality education and correctional programs.

The Deputy Director of Education and Rehabilitative Care will ensure compliance with federal and state laws, regulations, and established policies and procedures, including the development, interpretation, revision, and implementation of standard operating procedures for both Education and the Juvenile Correctional Center (JCC). This new leadership position will be responsible for determining if curriculum, testing, and programs meet all requirements, mandates, and standards, and ensure compliance with mandatory regulations and statutes governing compulsory attendance, teacher licensure, and special education.

Additional duties and responsibilities of this role include but are not limited to the participation in and oversight of intermediate and long range planning and programming through the monitoring and analysis of JCC populations. The position will also direct facility operations and programs ensuring security and safety compliance including supervising the Superintendent of Juvenile Correctional Center and Superintendent of Education.

Additionally, the Deputy Director will represent the Agency Director during meetings; attend board meetings and interface with the office of the Attorney General, Secretary of Public Safety and Homeland Security, legislators, judges, public officials, and media to address issues and questions regarding the division and the department.

Minimum Qualifications

To qualify for this role, the successful candidate must have:
•Comprehensive knowledge of federal and state statutes affecting educational and correctional programs.
•Considerable knowledge of juvenile corrections operations.
•Knowledge of treatment issues in juvenile residential settings, operations, and security issues; of administration and management principles related to complex juvenile justice programs.
•Knowledge of security procedures, acceptable standards, and techniques; human resources policy and practice, and training requirements of staff.
•Knowledge of legal standards and ethical considerations in corrections and juvenile care.
•Ability to develop and manage budgets, direct a large staff, develop, and implement policies and procedures, establish goals, objectives, and measurements, evaluate program effectiveness, develop, and implement strategic and response plans, analyze data, and make recommendations, and establish collaborative partnerships.
•Knowledge of crisis intervention and emergency response procedures.
•Familiarity with PBIS and associated data analysis in a correctional setting.

Additional Considerations

As an additional consideration, the ideal candidate may have advanced education and/or experience in Criminal Justice, Education, Behavioral Analysis, or Law.
