Job Duties

The Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental services support individuals by promoting recovery, self-determination, and wellness in all aspects of life. DBHDS operates 12 facilities: 8 behavioral health facilities for adults, a training center, a psychiatric facility for children and adolescents, a medical center, and a center for behavioral rehabilitation. State facilities provide highly structured, intensive services for individuals with mental illness, intellectual disability, or need substance use disorder services. DBHDS is committed to a life of possibilities for all Virginians. This position will work at Southern Virginia Mental Health Institute, a 72-bed Joint Commission accredited State Mental Health Facility, located in Danville, VA.

This position will: serve as a clinical social worker providing social work services to assigned patients as needed; serve as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team; complete comprehensive assessments; assist in writing treatment plans; provide group and individual therapy; identify patient needs for community living, complete entitlement applications, and coordinate discharge plans.

**This position will work either five 8-hour or four 10-hour days per week; one of those days must be on the weekend (Saturday or Sunday).**

$3,000 sign on bonus will be awarded to new hires to state service with a one-year written agreement required.

Minimum Qualifications

A Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW) or candidate for graduation within one year with a Master’s degree in Social Work from an accredited school of social work with case work/group work experience.

The applicant must have advanced knowledge and skills in providing social work interventions, conducting assessments, mobilizing multiple community resources, and providing thorough documentation in an electronic health record (EHR).

Additional Considerations

Experience working in a psychiatric or healthcare facility, acute care, long-term or correctional setting.
Advanced knowledge of mental illnesses and dual disorders.
Veterans and people with National Service.
Bilingual fluency in Spanish and English.
