Job Duties
Develops, coordinates, monitors and manages the institution's safety programs. Responsible for fire prevention, safety, health, hazardous material/communication, occupational safety regulations and sanitation. Major job elements consist of: institutional inspection program, employee fire and safety training, coordination with local, state and federal agencies on required reports. Maintains documentation as necessary to comply with department corrections standards. Assist with pest control at the institution.
Minimum Qualifications
General knowledge of safety and environmental regulations and principles, techniques, laws and regulations. Demonstrated ability to develop and present institutional plans and programs. Demonstrated ability to teach/train in a classroom setting. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively. Demonstrated ability to efficiently delegate.
Additional Considerations
Experience related to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Virginia Department of Fire Programs (VDFP) regulations. Experience preparing reports. Previous experience working in corrections. Experience with Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations. Certification in Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) field or other local, state, and federal safety program. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, and Excel).
