Job Duties

The Southern Virginia Higher Education Center is currently seeking a qualified individual to fill the position of Lead Instructor Healthcare Training Hub. The Southern Virginia Higher Education Center provides access to higher education, workforce training and programming, innovative industry services, and technologically advanced state-of-the-art facilities and learning labs that includes comprehensive fiscal management, operational and supportive services, community outreach and engagement, and extensive collaborations. These components work together to support the organization’s mission of advancing Southern Virginia’s economic potential through education, innovation, and collaboration. The Lead Instructor for the Healthcare Training Hub (HTH) drives its sustainability and growth by delivering high-quality teaching, fostering curriculum innovation, and enhancing hands-on learning experiences. The role focuses on preparing students for success as future healthcare professionals through cutting-edge simulation techniques and adherence to the latest industry standards in clinical skills and patient care. A key responsibility of the Lead Instructor is staying ahead of healthcare industry trends, with a particular emphasis on integrating advanced simulation technology and didactic instruction that aligns with workforce demands and professional best practices. The Lead Instructor also oversees the HTH teaching staff and the simulation technician, ensuring collaboration and effectiveness through engagement with academic partners, employers, community stakeholders, and SVHEC staff. Success in this role will be measured by student performance, job placement rates, and the development of partnerships that enhance the HTH’s impact in the region.

Minimum Qualifications

Comprehensive work experience as a Registered Nurse. Extensive knowledge of curriculum development and teaching and learning principles for adult learners. Experience as an instructor, trainer, preceptor or facilitator. Must be able to help develop programs and curricula to meet healthcare industry needs. Ability to analyze data and make data-driven decisions. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Experience with healthcare simulation and associated simulation equipment. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Knowledge of simulation lab, multimedia equipment and computer software used in the delivery of health instruction. Demonstrated ability to provide supervision to subordinates. Must be effective in a fast-paced environment and readily adaptable to changes as needed. Must be able to work independently, exercise sound judgment. Bachelor’s degree in Nursing. Hold an unencumbered license as a Registered Nurse or a multistate licensure privilege to practice nursing in Virginia. Must be certified in Basic Life Support (CPR/AED/First Aid).

Additional Considerations

Classroom teaching experience at the Registered Nurse level. Supervision of students in clinical training. Experience in teaching environment. Grant writing experience.
