Job Duties

Position contributes to the public safety mission by managing and leading assigned district staff to support the operation of an adult Community Corrections Unit and ensures implementation of departmental and divisional policies and procedures. Enhances public safety through the use of Evidence-Based Practices in the training and supervision of staff, with a focus on the encouragement of better outcomes for probationers and parolees.

Minimum Qualifications

Progressively responsible work experience within Community Corrections. Experience supervising professional and support staff. Working knowledge of federal, state, and local laws governing Probation and Parole. Working knowledge of Virginia Department of Corrections Community Corrections practices, policies, and procedures. Knowledge of the criminal justice system and effective treatment modalities. Demonstrated ability to understand, interpret and communicate the policies, procedures, and standards of the Department of Corrections. Competency in the use of Evidence-Based Practices, to direct the resources of the district toward interventions that produce positive, measurable outcomes. Ability to model strong leadership skills, to act at all times as a positive force for pro-social change and to motivate staff to achieve their best work. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of individuals and public officials. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Additional Considerations

Advanced knowledge in criminal justice, a related human services field, or equivalent applicable experience or training. Experience in program development, implementation, and evaluation of various social services as related to probation in a state judicial system. Experience with planning, budgeting, analysis and administration. Skilled in MS Office (to include Excel) programs.
