Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Social Services (VDSS) engages families for success. Its Division of Child Support Enforcement (DCSE) manages nearly 251,000 cases to ensure that child support payments of $590 million per year reach families across the Commonwealth.

The Field Supervisor serves as a team leader within a district office, ensuring that families supported by assigned function(s) are engaged for success so that they have the financial and family support they need to grow and thrive. Draws on expertise to interpret policy and applies sound judgment for complex programmatic and compliance issues so that the case management processes rendered by staff are able to influence non-custodial parents and support custodial parents and their children. Establishes and maintains procedures and practices that deliver assigned child support functions—Establishment/ Paternity, Court, Enforcement, Review & Adjustments, Interstate, Family Engagement, Operations, and/or Fiscal Account Management. Promotes enhancement of team member contributions in terms of efficiency, effectiveness, and impact. Actively contributes to enhancement planning efforts for the team, district, and regional levels.

Minimum Qualifications

• Working knowledge of supervisory principles and techniques to include motivating staff; managing, planning, and directing the work activities of staff; and managing employee performance
• Ability to interpret and apply regulations, laws, policies, and procedures related to human services to include the child support enforcement program
• Ability to maximize team performance through training and technical guidance
• Demonstrated ability to analyze data and reports in order to identify problems and formulate and implement solutions to maximize performance
• Skill in conflict resolution and the ability to work with a diverse audience
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
• Skill in the use of personal computers, spreadsheets, word processing, automated information systems and remote technology, such as VPN
• Demonstrated ability to exercise sound independent judgment in receiving and responding to customer inquiries
• Ability to research and resolve customer issues in a timely and appropriate manner

Additional Considerations

• Work experience in supervision and in a child support program in Virginia or another state
• Spanish bilingual skill preference
