Job Duties

The Anatomical Program Support Tech will serve as part of the administrative team for the Virginia State Anatomical Program and will provide administrative activities in support of the program. Characteristic duties may include office and administrative responsibilities, data entry, records maintenance, filing and providing customer service. The incumbent will be responsible for answering a multi-line phone, answering questions pertaining to the Virginia State Anatomical Program. This work will regularly require discretion, interpretation of law, policies, procedures or processes and frequent interaction with constituents. This position may provide assistance to other units within the program. This position will primarily work weekends, holidays and some hours during normal business hours. Some teleworking hours may be authorized, depending on program and agency policies and procedures, after 90 days.

Wage employees are subject to the following conditions of employment:
• Wage employees serve at the will and pleasure of the appointing authority.
• Continuing employment is based on available funding and business need.
• Wage employees are not covered by the provisions of the Virginia Personnel Act. Therefore, they are not eligible for benefits which are provided to salaried employees, such as leave credits, holiday pay, insurance, access to the grievance procedure, etc.
• Wage employees are paid only for the hours they actually work.
• Virginia state law currently requires that agencies not permit wage employees to work in excess of 29 hours per week on average over the course of a year. Wage employees may not work for VDH beyond 1,500 hours during the period of May 1 – April 30 of the following year (the Standard Measurement Period).
• Once a wage employee works the maximum of 1,500 hours during the Standard Measurement Period, the employee may be rehired as a wage employee of VDH only after the next Standard Measurement Period has begun.
• Wage employees are eligible to apply for all classified positions for which recruitment has been initiated, including those limited to State Employees Only.
• If a wage employee becomes employed in a classified position, he/she will be eligible to purchase retirement credit for the time worked as a wage employee.

Minimum Qualifications

• Knowledge of office procedures, computer and software technology, use of policies and procedures and customer service.
• Experience working in an office setting with a high-call volume and/or call center environment.
• Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, orally and written.
• Strong organizational skills and experience with software applications and Microsoft Office products (i.e. Word, Excel and database entry) and general office equipment (copier, fax).
• Ability to work in an environment with contact of deceased human remains.
• Ability and experience with setting up and maintaining files and manuals.
• Ability to work independently and deal with sensitive issues requiring discretion and sound judgement. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Ability to lift up to 75lbs and assisting with pushing and pulling up to 200lbs.
• Valid driver’s license.

Additional Considerations

• Experience working in a death care industry setting.
• Understanding of state government, such as relevant programs, policies, and Virginia Code
• Knowledge of processing death certificates and utilizing the State EDRS system is preferred
