Job Duties
Position is responsible for: To provide educational leadership, supervision, and guidance to facilitate cost effective and quality educational programs in compliances with the standards of the Department of Correctional Education’s policies and procedures.
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge of the current educational theory and practices; knowledge of educational administration; general knowledge of state and federal guidelines relating to regular and special education; school law; and school finance. Demonstrated ability to plan, supervise and evaluate educational & Library programs. Effective oral and written communication skill and the willingness to accept and demonstrated ability to collaborate with and manage people effectively. Demonstrated ability to lead and direct a complex educational facility. Proficient with PC and Microsoft Office software.
Must have a valid Virginia Teaching Certificate. A Master’s Degree in Education or relevant field from an accredited college or university and a valid Postgraduate Teaching License with an endorsement in Administration and Supervision. Several years of teaching experience is required. Experience working with multi-discipline educational programs is required. Experience with and knowledge of the current educational theory and practices; Experience in and knowledge of educational administration, state and federal guidelines relating to regular and special education, school law, and school finance. Experience and ability of managing library including planning, supervising, and evaluating educational & Library programs. Effective oral and written communication skill and the willingness to accept and ability to deal effectively with a variety of personalities.
Note: Successful candidates are responsible for any renewal points to maintain a teaching license under the guidelines of Virginia Department of Education to comply with the requirements for continued employment in this position. If seeking reciprocity from another state, candidates must submit all documentation for a Virginia Teaching License within 90 days of employment and satisfy all requirements within a year.
Additional Considerations
Superintendent's license from the Virginia Department of Education (VADOE). Several years of Correctional experience in teaching and managing educational and library programs in correctional or other alternative setting. Knowledge of/Experience in personal and performance management strongly desired. Knowledge of correctional education or other alternative setting is preferred.
