Job Duties

Provides fiscal support to the Business Office with emphasis on inmate trust accounts. Processes, reviews, and analyzes a range of data to ensure accuracy and compliance with established procedures. Performs technical fiscal and accounting duties by preparing and maintaining fiscal records and reports. Ensures all accounting transactions are completed in accordance with Department of Corrections and Department of Accounts policies and procedures.
This is an hourly position limited to working no more than 1,500 hours per agency during the 12-month period of May 1 – April 30, regardless of the hire date. The hourly employment period resets on May 1 of the following year. All hourly employees are limited to working no more than 29 hours per week on average over the 12-month period. This hourly position offers no state benefits.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent. Experience in an accounting/bookkeeping setting and performing detailed work with numerical data and mathematical calculations. Recent experience using basic office equipment including the operation of a 10-key calculator. Demonstrated ability to perform detailed work with numerical data and to make mathematical calculations rapidly and accurately. Working knowledge of sound bookkeeping/accounting principles and practices. Demonstrated ability to prepare routine financial reports and statements. Considerable knowledge of office practices, procedures, and office equipment. Demonstrated skill in the use of Microsoft Office to include Word and Excel/spreadsheets to accomplish office support requirements. Demonstrated skill in inputting data into an automated database other than Microsoft Office. Demonstrated ability to provide information and communicate effectively (both oral and written) with employees and staff. Demonstrated ability to interpret and follow prescribed operating instructions and related policies, procedures and guidelines. Working knowledge of office procedures, data entry, and record maintenance.

Additional Considerations

Advance knowledge in basic accounting/bookkeeping or equivalent training. Working knowledge of State Financial Programs including CARDINAL, FAACS, Inmate Trust and Inmate Pay. Knowledge of State travel policies.
