Are you looking for the opportunity to build your management skills? Richmond District, Chesterfield Residency is seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual with strong highway maintenance experience and leadership skills to become a frontline supervisor for roadway maintenance crew for the Amelia Area Headquarters. The Maintenance Supervisor assists the area superintendent in assessing needs and planning, scheduling, assigning, and evaluating work; estimating materials, labor, and cost and ordering supplies; monitoring expenditures, assisting in forecasting and budget reports; and supervising area maintenance and contract crews during normal and emergency operations. The position will be responsible for leading safety meetings and training staff on safety methods and protocols; investigating customer inquiries and identifying solutions; maintaining work accomplishment records and project documentation; and serving as backup Inventory Manager.

This position is designated as essential during emergency situations, which may include but are not limited to inclement weather, disaster response and emergency operations.

Minimum Qualifications

• Skilled in the use of computers and software applications
• Valid Driver’s license
• Skilled in operating and maintaining light to heavy duty trucks and equipment.
• Ability to perform manual labor
• Ability to direct, evaluate and train others
• Safety shoes required
• Considerable knowledge of roadway maintenance and construction practices and procedures.
• Ability to obtain valid CDL and DOT medical card within 11 months of employment and maintain thereafter. Must comply with DOT and VDOT policies and standards when operating CDL equipment.
• Knowledge of inventory practices and procedures.

Additional Considerations

• A combination of training, experience or education in Management. Maintenance, Construction, or related field desired.
• DCR Erosion and Sediment Control certification
• Experience supervising others and evaluating performance
• Experience planning schedules and assigning manpower.
• Ability to gather data, conduct research and create reports
• Experience overseeing emergency operations activities including snow removal, storm damage, and accident clean -up
