Job Duties
The Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services’ (DBHDS) Office of Cost Accounting and Reimbursement is seeking a highly qualified individual for the Reimbursement Technician I position at Northern Virginia Mental Health Institute in Falls Church, VA, with hybrid telework options available. This position ensures maximum revenue collections are received for billing of acute inpatient psychiatric services for Medicare, Medicare Advantage plans, commercial insurance, and billing of Temporary Detention Orders (TDO). Additional duties include all aspects of third-party billing associated with acute psychiatric hospitalizations to include preparation of claims, as well as billing and follow up of claims until payment is received; creating claims in both paper and electronic formats; third-party verifications; facilitating authorizations of client hospital stays to ensure eligibility of third-party coverage is accurately documented; and working in an automated Practice Management System.
Minimum Qualifications
• Knowledge of third-party insurance billing.
• Knowledge of State and Federal collections laws.
• Extensive mathematical and analytical skills.
• Experience with Microsoft Office, with a concentration in Word and Excel.
• Experience with automated accounts receivable systems.
• Excellent time management skills, with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as exceptional customer service skills with internal and external customers.
• Ability to work both as an acting and contributing team member and independently.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
• Ability to organize/prioritize workload to complete duties within specified timeframes.
• Ability to meet deadlines and adapt to shifting work priorities.
Additional Considerations
• Experience working in a health care environment.
• Hospital/inpatient billing experience.
