Job Duties
Virginia State University (VSU), a public and comprehensive 1890 Land Grant institution and historically black college/university (HBCU) founded in 1882, is seeking qualified applicants for the Spring 2025 and Fall 2025 semesters for the College of Natural and Health Sciences. Instructional (Teaching/Research) faculty's primary responsibilities require them to teach up to 15 credit hours per semester in-person and/or online (both synchronous and asynchronous). VSU Faculty must provide and engage students during regular office hours to meet and promote student engagement and success. At VSU, where Greater Happens Here, we offer 36 undergraduate, 17 graduate, and 2 doctoral degree programs and 8 certificate programs across six academic colleges.)
Non-Tenure Track appointments are limited to a one-year contract and will be considered for additional appointments upon review and need of the university and academic disciplines. Academicians with a keen interest in teaching opportunities within another college at VSU are strongly encouraged to apply directly to the respective job postings.

*Virginia State University requires that faculty be appropriately credentialed to teach assigned courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. VSU demonstrates compliance with its Faculty Credentialing Policy #2301 for all applicable education, experience, licensure and certification requirements in the selection and hiring of its faculty.
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in the teaching field or a master’s degree with a minimum of 18 graduate credits in the teaching field.
Proficiency to teach courses in the following areas: biology, chemistry, psychology and nursing. To teach nursing courses, the applicant must hold an unencumbered Virginia nursing license, a Master’s degree in nursing, and certification in online teaching/learning.
Must demonstrate effective and engaging teaching skills.
Must have the ability to work effectively with a culturally and educationally diverse student population.
Proficiency and willingness to adapt to new and emerging pedagogies in the classroom.
Additional Considerations
Ph.D is preferred.
Prior teaching experience in a higher education environment is highly preferred, including online instruction.
Demonstrated proficiency and prior experience in using instructional technologies and learning management systems (e.g. Banner/Blackboard) with an ability to use technology to enhance the teaching and educational experience.
Demonstrated experience and/or ability to measure, assess and align curricular outcomes with academic courses or programs.
