Southeastern Virginia Training Center is hiring a Food Service Technician I - Driver to join our team. The position plays a key part in supporting the well-being of adults with intellectual disabilities by preparing and delivering meals food carts to and from residential homes and maintaining a safe and sanitary food service operation.

At Southeastern Virginia Training Center (SEVTC) we serve citizens with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We are an intermediate care facility operated by the Department of Behavioral health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) where we support individuals in state-of-the-art homes with accommodations unique to their specific needs. Job Duties

  • Drive a delivery truck to and from the residential homes in any kind of weather.
  • Load and unload food carts on and off the truck for delivery.
  • Must perform these duties as trained and follow all safety standards and posted speed limits.
  • Push the food carts into the homes and connect them to a re-therm unit.
  • Double check all carts to ensure, hot and cold food are on correct sides for delivery to homes.
  • Responsible for washing dishes, lids and food trays to BOH standards.
  • Must properly assemble and disassemble the dishwasher.
  • Set up trays with condiments and makes supplemental food orders.
  • Assures food is served hot/cold as need requires.
  • Wash carts inside and out and wash dishes, pots, pans and utensils.
  • Keeps food service area clean by scrubbing tables and floors as needed.

Must be able to work rotating shifts scheduled between 5am-1:30pm; 6am-2:30pm and 10:30am-7:00pm including weekends and holidays

This position is considered essential personnel and would be required to work in the event of an emergency or facility need. All SEVTC positions are required to work different shifts and/or overtime as requested.

All new hires must successfully complete the facility’s Pre-service training program. Preservice training class is 5 days long 8:00 am to 4:30 pm).

 

Skills and experience required:

We are looking for candidates who are passionate about helping others and making a positive impact in their lives We also seek the following:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Active, valid driver’s license required
  • Basic knowledge of food safety
  • Must be aware of BOH regulations and have the ability to adhere to them.

 

Bonus points if you have:

  • Experience in residential food service work, food consistencies, or diet requirements
