Job Duties
The Assistant Athletic Trainer Will:
Create a positive, healthy and safe environment for all student-athletes within the athletic programs;
Be required to abide by the rules and regulations established by Virginia State University, National Athletic Trainers Association, the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA);
Assist the agency and/or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor;
Complete all other duties as assigned by Associate VP for Intercollegiate Athletics. Provide good customer service to our students, faculty/staff and constituents.
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required for Entry:
Must be knowledgeable of providing first aid and preventative medical attention, and rehab, to student-athletes as well as the ability to provide instruction on self-care;
Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures;
Must have the ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations;
Must be able to work in a diverse and team setting while having the ability to attract student-athletes to VSU;
Must be able to drive a State vehicle to transport student-athletes;
Must have a valid Virginia Driver’s License within 60 days of hire, as well as an acceptable driving record;
Must be willing to work evenings and weekends and travel on university business as assigned;
Must be computer literate;
Must have a Bachelors degree from an accredited university/college;
Must have and maintain certification by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA);
Must have and maintain certification in CPR/AED;
Must be licensed by the Board of Medicine;
Must be willing to display good customer service internally and externally.
Additional Considerations
Master’s degree is a plus.
