Who we are:
Southern Virginia Mental Health Institute (SVMHI) is a 72-bed Joint Commission accredited state psychiatric facility located in Danville, VA. The hospital serves individuals who are civilly committed and in need of treatment, and/or individuals involved in the criminal justice system who need treatment and/or pre-trial evaluation.
What we are looking for:
The Social Work Department at SVMHI is seeking a professional and friendly Part Time Driver to join our team! The main responsibilities include providing transportation services for individuals to engage in community outings, day programs, passes, discharges and special trips for business and reintegration back into the community. Must have the ability to read maps or use GPS for directions; adequate vision and hearing to recognize and respond to hazardous situations to ensure the safety of people in the vehicle; ability to be courteous to individuals and respectful of the dignity of others at all times; the ability to to work with staff using a team approach; and appropriately intervene in crisis or problem situations. This position will be serving adults from 18 to 64 years of age who have serious mental illness, addiction issues, physical and intellectual deficits and who have experienced trauma.
This position will have the opportunity to work mostly weekdays and occasional evenings and weekends as needed for up to 28 hours per week. This is a wage position with no benefits.
Minimum Qualifications
The successful applicant must be able to understand and follow instructions (written and verbal).
Must possess a valid driver's license that must remain valid throughout your employment.
Additional Considerations
Experience working in a psychiatric, healthcare facility, acute care, long-term or correctional setting.
Veterans and people with National Service.
Bilingual fluency in Spanish and English.
