Job Duties

This position serves as the Regional Lead Investigator. Receives information and complaints from employees, inmates and general public regarding suspicious and/or observations of crimes or violations of laws, rules, regulations and policies; investigates allegations and reports incidents to the Special Investigative Unit as outlines in Department of Corrections (DOC) policy. Conducts investigations on all assignments received from the Regional Administrator. Gives assistance and directions to staff and inmates. Leads and counsels' staff. May coordinate work schedules and assign duty rosters for assigned shift. Contributes to administration of performance management system for staff. Conducts ongoing inspections to maintain, security, and good order of the institution. Interacts with management, staff, visitors, inmates and the public to maintain orderly and secure operations.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent. Current Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) Certification. Considerable experience in corrections or law enforcement. Experience supervising corrections staff. Responsible investigative or security related experiences. Working experience planning, scheduling, and/or organizing work for others to include timekeeping and duty roster management. Experience in reviewing and evaluating records and reports and applying post orders. Demonstrated knowledge of practices and procedures governing security and/or administration. Demonstrated ability to sufficiently receive, understand, follow and give oral and written instructions. Working knowledge in the use of firearms, radio equipment, physical control devices, electric and electronic controls.

Additional Considerations

LEAD Graduate or equivalent applicable experience and/or training. Working experience with evidence-based practices. Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office programs to include outlook.
