Job Duties

Western State Hospital is seeking a part time Clinical Social Work/Counselor II to provide clinical licensure supervision to MSW staff, within in the Social Work Department, who are pursuing credentials as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. The Clinical Social Worker will be responsible for negotiating a supervision contract with mutually agreeable goals, responsibilities, and time frames; prepare for each supervisory session ahead of time and employ a variety of evaluation methods (i.e. case studies, conversations, progress note review, etc.); provide individual and/or group clinical licensure supervision to staff; document each supervisory session; maintain supervisory records; keep supervisory records confidential; will provide coverage for absences, as needed; and provide guidance to supervisees on the importance of documentation and record keeping of supervisory sessions in accordance with requirements of the Virginia Board of Social Work.

Minimum Qualifications

- LCSW required
- approval from the Virginia Board of Social Work to provide clinical supervision
- professional work experience with adults with serious mental illness
- comprehensive knowledge of social work theory and practice from an accredited social work degree program
- knowledge of the principles of supervision and the ability to demonstrate necessary skills such as addressing both strengths and challenges of the supervisee, modeling and discussing ethical practice, and providing support and encouragement in the learning context
