THIS IS AN HOURLY POSITION THAT IS LIMITED TO 29 HOURS A WEEK, 1500 HOURS IN A 12-MONTH PERIOD AND IS NOT ENTITLED TO STATE BENEFITS PACKAGE. Position available with the South Hill Specialty Crew. Additional positions may be filled from this recruitment within 90 days.
Duties include performing a combination of skilled equipment operations, preventive maintenance and manual labor tasks in roadway maintenance. Perform emergency roadway operations as an essential employee. This position will install, maintain, repair and remove roadway signs and traffic control devices for assigned area.

Minimum Qualifications
• Ability to perform heavy manual labor
• Skill in mathematics used in carpentry and calculating distance.
• Experience in work zone set-up, traffic controls and flagging to include using the Manual of Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) or similar regulations.
• Ability to maintain records and complete simple paperwork.
• Valid Driver’s license.
• Skill in the operation and maintenance of light, medium and heavy-duty equipment used for highway maintenance and repair.
• Skill in general carpentry
• Safety shoes required.
• Ability to obtain CDL and DOT medical card within 11 months of employment and maintain thereafter. Must comply with DOT and VDOT policies and standards when operating CDL equipment.
Additional Considerations
• Intermediate Work Zone Traffic Control Safety.
• Inventory experience
• Basic tree cutting and chainsaw operator
• Experience in roadway sign installation, maintenance and repair.
• CPR with AED, standard First aid, and blood borne pathogens (BBP) combined course.
• Experience in work zone set-up, traffic controls and flagging to include using the MUTCD or similar regulations.
• Valid Commercial Driver’s License with appropriate endorsements.
