Job Duties

The Danville Science Center seeks a dynamic and energetic Museum Generalist who will provide quality customer service and brand presentation to our Museum guests; present and interpret museum exhibits, assist in the delivery of educational programs to include STEM Programs, Outreach, Special Events, Birthday parties, as well as provide guest services and gift shop coverage, operate the Dome console, maintain the museum’s Butterfly Station as needed, and other duties as necessary that align with the Museum’s strategic plan and mission.

Please note that this is a part-time position and will be scheduled for 20-25 hours a week on average with a maximum of 1500 hours in a 12-month period. No state benefits are provided. Interested candidates must apply on-line “Virginia Jobs” (RMS) employment site at https://jobs.virginia.gov/.

Minimum Qualifications

Demonstrated ability to implement STEM education in an informal setting or equivalent training and experience; customer service experience; excellent verbal and written communication skills; proficiency with Google Workspace, Microsoft Word and Excel; the ability to be a self-starter and work successfully with little supervision; the ability to successfully work with people of all ages and backgrounds; and the ability to effectively present content in both one-on-one and group situations in an engaging, compelling and energetic manner in front of a live audience of varying ages. Additional qualifications include excellent organizational skills, and the ability to handle money and inventory with accuracy and accountability. Must be able to work the weekend (Sunday shifts required), holidays and occasional evenings depending on museum programming and events.

Additional Considerations

Museum experience and an interest in science and/or experience in K-12 science education is a plus. Experience working with children of various ages. ASL or Spanish language competencies is a plus.
