Job Duties

The Dept of Environmental Quality seeks a qualified candidate to supervise the Northern Regional Office Water Quality Monitoring programs consisting of Chesapeake Bay water quality monitoring studies, ambient water quality monitoring, special water quality assessments, biological monitoring, lake monitoring, and probabilistic monitoring. This includes providing program evaluation, personnel supervision, personnel training, and technical support.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Demonstrated knowledge of DEQ Leadership and Management Competencies: demonstrates self-awareness, develops others, thinks strategically, and cultivates work relationships; and understands the business, achieves results, communicates proficiently, and applies technical skills.
  • Knowledge of accepted water quality monitoring principles and procedures
  • Knowledge of aquatic chemistry, biology, and related environmental sciences
  • Knowledge of federal and state water pollution control regulations and water quality standards
  • Demonstrated competency in program and personnel management
  • Ability to work independently and set deadlines to meet work load
  • Skilled with problem solving; ability to effectively manage multiple priorities
  • Ability to analyze water quality data
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with diverse audiences; ability to represent the Agency at stakeholder or focus group meetings
  • Personal computer skills, including word processing, data management and analysis
  • This position may require you to operate a state owned or leased vehicle. Therefore, a valid driver's license is required.

Additional Considerations

Combination of education or training with major coursework in environmental engineering, environmental or other physical science discipline and or regulatory training and experience is desired for entry into this position.
